West Sunset
Perched above the Pacific Palisades with a seemingly infinite view of the horizon, an enchanting Paul Laszlo home built in 1957; now the shepherds of the elegant and modest residence, we worked closely with our clients to honor Laszlo’s exuberant design, layering compact, unfussy living with eclecticism to create a home that would nurture their daily rituals and growing family.
From an archival photo, we ideated a palette of rich colors, channeling Laszlo’s boundless eccentricity through hues of bright purple, persimmon, sky-blue, spirited blends of terrazzo, oak millwork and flooring laid in a chevron pattern.
Already dramatic by Laszlo’s design, we extended the roof’s check-mark design in both directions, a celebration of his buoyant geometry.
We gave the home a rhythm of respite and whimsy; meditative corners meet unlikely mash-ups of vintage and modern, an environment that gives back to as much as it inspires its inhabitants.
