Irene Neuwirth
Between titans of art, fashion, and gems behind a cast copper façade on Madison Avenue, a rabbit hole where whimsy, wonder, and fine jewelry co-exist with a refined sense of playfulness. A larger than life giraffe by artist, Clare Crespo, a fellow Los Angeles native, greets visitors from the bustling city, welcoming them to the fantastical world of luxury and irreverence that lies beyond her window perch.
Surrealist motifs come to life in wall-mounted vitrines that line the store’s walls; assemblages of playful fauna sculpted by London-based artist Shona Heath play host to gems and geodes, a nod to Neuwirth’s love for animals. At the store’s center, a towering brass Palm Tree adorned with light-up coconuts was a commission from Colombian artist Chris Wolston, a nod to Neuwirth’s west coast provenance.
With an address due west from Central Park and its famed Alice in Wonderland sculpture, details strike a balance between luxury and whimsy; a custom carpet by Christopher Farr hints at the park’s grassy terrains while a hand-painted psychedelic pattern lines the spiral staircase leading to Neuwirth’s entertaining lounge.
